Collective intelligenceis a shared or group intelligence that emerges from the collaboration and competition of many individuals. There are many types of Collective intelligence. When we think about it we are (some of us) a part of all of these . It could be in your employment company, your school, your family, or even just yourself. I myself know i take a part in Collective intelligence. You can kinda think of it as a big network of communities of practice. Collective intelligence (CI) can also be defined as a form of networking enabled by the rise of communications technology, namely the Internet. Web 2.0 has enabled interactivity and thus, users are able to generate their own content. I know i always talk about the virtual world but think about it. There is a ton of collective intelligence out there. It is a better and faster way to bring everyone together in a group to learn from self and others, and its on-line so how much better can it get. Well when i was on SL the other day i ran across a group talking about how they want to see Second Life bring the view on Web 3.0. I think that would be pretty interesting and i plan to be there when this happens. CI will play a big role in your life, and will always continue if you let it. I hope someday we can come up with a new organization to make learning even easier, and more efficient for everyone. I learn more from groups. Think about it ” where would we be without the knowledge, and the things we know today” Would we continue to learn as fast as we do. Would we take weeks, or even months on one project? With collective intelligence we have everything right at our fingertips. Welcome to the Internet and web 2.0 isn’t it wonderful. I couldn’t imagine a world without what we have today.

Yeah, the online world is a big part of it today. The fact with the click of a mouse we can do and learn anything we want and connect with people all over and learn from them to. Whether we like it or not, collective intelligence just happens by defualt, it’s not necessarily something that’s done consciously because we’re constantly learning and experiencing new things which doesn’t do anything but make us more knowledgable and better people in the world.

Thanks for the kind words about my blogging. Your blogging gets better every posting. I too learn more from a group setting. I feel more comfortable to ask a question, make a comment or challenge a comment. You get more personal examples in a CI and not just a lecture. It also doesn’t end when that meeting is over. You can email or blog people anytime to continue the learning.

My excited me about CI on education as a mother who really is concern about the moral of public school this day, CI in relevance for teaching, learning and creative expression is a sources of explicit collective intelligence provide opportunities for research and self-study and give students a chance to practice the construction of knowledge—they can contribute as well as consume. Of course with proper understanding and how to use media and technology properly in PLE.

Personally, I’m a VERY curious person. So when I want or need to know something really bad, I just log on the web and voila, everything is right in front of me. Gotta love C.I.

I liked the picture that you posted. Very descriptive.

Collective Intelligence used towards the same goal will be extremely beneficial for us for sure; of course, there are people who will provide more and others less knowledge but all these minds together could definitely become one idea, once solution, all together.
Now, I am getting a little confusion about some responses or thought about this topic, internet and networking is the future but like I mentioned before, we have to be careful and selective of information, I have seen a lot of wrong information just “floating” around the web (remember, we make the web) and we have to be very careful and selective with the information we get and not to fall in the mistake of believe that just because is out there, has to be right. Imagine what would happen if we all just used the internet to ‘collect’ information but no one really adds anything substantial? Will you take that information there as correct o not?
